About this deal

I don't want to say too much about this/these book(s) for fear of spoiling it for others, just to say that these stories are a 'must read'. A gifted storyteller who continues to give fans, old and new, quality entertainment and another addictive, engrossing saga.

On the whole a good read, at times it was almost a relaxing read ( at other times, see below,it was the opposite ) based around about a woman’s quest to find out the truth about her Mum (who once died was found to have secrets a plenty ) and her Dad ( still alive ), the book was told by the daughter and also back in time by the Mum, both sides of the story fused well throughout the book, I think I favoured the Mum’s as she had had quite the past and many a tale to tell!I found it strange that Alice didn't pass on this information to her sister and nor did she include her in the quest to discover the truth about their parentage. Alice starts to dig into her mother’s past and she throws up some surprising facts that she perhaps wished she had left buried but at the same time a clearer picture of her heritage starts to form for her and along the way she does find some romance. This was a good book on the whole, as are all Lesley Pearse books, but I do have to drop two stars purely for the reasons of too many characters and not very likable protagonists from my point of view.

I was a little anxious to start this book as I really didn’t enjoy last year’s offering from this author, much preferring her earlier work. The abuse by the nuns and the brothers while in the homes is a very moving account of how adults abused the children in their care and when placing them in work stations they neglected to check them out first to see if they are suitable for the child going there. CAREFUL: This part might be considered spoilers, even though it’s just historical events) The end of the book did not help my pain. I really enjoy a novel that makes me wonder what I would do in the same circumstances- and this is one of those books. Just like the author says in her final notes, it is possible that she didn’t resign to a quiet, placid life and made great thing out of her life. Incredibly Deception is Lesley Pearse’s 30th book and as I sit here writing this review I can see all of her previous books taking pride of place on my bookshelves. Tantas cosas que pasaron juntos en ese bote que cuando por fin saborearon un poco de libertad todo se derrumbó.
